Andubh (Gaelic for ‘The Black’) is a contemporary yet modest home perched on the harbour-facing hillside within the eclectic heritage of Greenwich. Its design represents a strong conceptual dialogue between positive and negative space and seeks to challenge the notion that an interior is defined by walls.

A floating first floor appearing to hover above the ground datum, defines the living zone and makes the distinction between public and private zones. The form and layout are both informed by the slope of the land which is constantly referenced throughout the design, whilst contextual clues are borrowed for the finishes.

The home has a relatively small footprint, however its open plan design, oversized vertical volume and visual connection to site parameters make it feel large and generous in proportion.
